6 Year Old with Best's Disease
Our Granddaughter Miranda, now 6 years old, was diagnosed with a genetic form of
Macular Degeneration called Best's disease. It was discovered in
1998 during a routine eye exam when she was 4 years old. Her vision in her right
eye was 20/80 and her left was 20/70. It was then that they discovered a lesion
1½ mm in size. We were told that time that she would eventually lose her frontal
vision but may keep some peripheral vision. We were told that her vision could
not be helped with glasses and that there was no treatment.
In July 1999, she saw an eye specialist due to a sudden vision loss. Her vision
was 20/200 in the right eye, and considered legally blind in that eye. We were
upset to say the least.
About that time Shaklee's CarotoMax was available and we began to give her one a
day in addition to Shaklee's Vitalea and Chewable C. By early fall of that year
her vision in the right eye had improved to 20/80. In November, her vision was
still improving and now 20/60 in the right eye.
That's 2 lines better on an eye chart, and the left eye was stable . No signs of
any lesions or Best's flare ups.
In January of 2000, she is seeing better yet. Her right eye is 20/40 and her
left eye is 20/20. There is no active bleeding in the right eye and everything
is dry and stable. Miranda will have her eyes checked again in April and we
expect more improvement. Her Eye Retinal Specialist is impressed and looking at
Shaklee Supplements for his office.
There can be no greater reward derived from being involved with Shaklee then to
be able to help restore sight to a little blind girl especially when she is your
own beautiful Granddaughter.

Menopause & Bone Density Results
I have great news I wanted to pass on to all my Shaklee friends having entered
menopause (that's not the great news), I decided to get a bone density scan done
to check my bone health as I start this critical time of life.
As most of you may know, your bone density is at its peak at about the age of
30, and then begins to slowly decrease as you age. That is true for both men and
women. But as women enter menopause, they lose the benefit of estrogen in their
system, and can lose bone density rapidly, leading to osteoporosis in 25% or
more of women. Backs hunched-over and bone fractures are a common result. So I
was very pleased when the doctor informed me that the results of my bone density
scan were excellent.
I have an average of 112% bone density of a healthy 30-year-old woman!!!!
Instead of losing density over the last 16 years (yes, I'm 46!), I've actually
gained!!!! We both agreed that the only explanation was the high quality calcium
I've been taking for the last 7 years. I wish I could say I have been doing
weight-bearing exercise as well, which in combination with calcium increases
density. So it has to be the Shaklee Calcium!!!

Crazy Doberman
Felix, our red 8 year old Doberman, gets a little cazy when there's a full moon.
He tries to mount my cats and stands outside howling at northing in particular.
I decided to try a couple of B Complex and they worked! I now give him 2 B
Complex a day, the week before a full moon and a few days after. It really
helps! I'm a firm believer that it's the B Complex that settles him down. When
he doesn't get the B Complex during a full moon, he does the same crazy things
